NOVA (2023) is a piece for two dancers that explores sexual attraction, affectivity, and intimacy between men subject to heteronormative frameworks of masculinity. The choreography translates the personal experience of Víctor Hugo Loaiza, as it shares the story of two men who have an unexpected erotic encounter.
In dialogue with José Esteban Muñoz's "Cruising Utopia," the choreography delves into the tensions between heterosexuality and homosexuality, fragmenting its narrative arc into two sections: The Here and Now, and The Then and There

'The Here and Now,' explores hidden homoerotic gestures within traditionally masculine spaces and activities, such as gyms, sports, clubs (including nightlife venues), and fraternities. These subtle hints clash with typical 'heterosexual' behaviour, creating a complex network of bodily gestures that reflect conflicted physical interactions between desire and the implicit prohibitions of societal norms

'The Then and There,'
depicts an iridescent
horizon of erotic liberation.
'Here, masculinity and homosexual bodies shine brightly, free from the constraints of competition, humiliation, and violence.
This utopian realm is rooted in hope and emerges through the activation of queer utopian memory.

Nova is the transition of memory into stars.
It is the transportation of one’s body into a universe far beyond normativity.
Nova is the possibility to absorb and be absorbed in pleasure; to self-implode in ecstasis.
It is a place of reflection,
a place where every clash of skin is an epiphany, a place where the accumulation of erotic charge finally explodes into cosmic dust.
